Karl Dorell is an offensive coordinator and receivers coach who was an honorable mention All-American as player at Colorado. He has been in the coaching business for more than 15 years and has coached six players to the NFL. Three of them were selected in the first round. He also served as the wide receivers coach at Arizona State during the 1994 season. He was a graduate assistant at UCLA from 1988 to 1991. In that year, Dorrell led the Lumberjacks to school records in first downs and total offense.
He was named Pac-10 co-coach of the year in 2005
Karl Dorell was born in Alameda, California, on December 18, 1963. He went on to play college football at UCLA, and in his senior year was named honorable mention All-American and two-time All-league. After graduating, he married Kim Westley and they have two children, Chandler and Lauren. Chandler played wide receiver at Stanford and Lauren played volleyball for the University of Colorado.

Karl Dorell is an American football coach. Most recently, he served as the head coach at the University of Colorado. Before that, he was the head coach at the University of California, Los Angeles from 2003 to 2007. During that time, he compiled a record of 35–27.
He was a defensive coordinator
Karl Dorell is no longer an assistant coach with the Colorado Buffaloes. He was fired in December by the athletic director Dan Guerrero. He declined a Las Vegas Bowl coaching job. His replacement was DeWayne Walker, who was the defensive coordinator during the BYU game. Meanwhile, Colorado’s current interim coach is Rick Neuheisel, a former UCLA teammate.
He was CU’s first first-year head coach
Karl Dorell was hired by CU in late February, just four weeks before spring practice began. This left him with little time to assemble his coaching staff, meet with his players, or plan his team’s schemes. In fact, he didn’t even practice with the team until October 9.
He had an $8.7 million contract
Dorrell had a turbulent tenure in Boulder. After going 4-2 in his first season, he lost two games by 17 points. He was later fired by the team. This is the fourth school to fire its head coach this season. However, the controversy has caused him to apologize for his behavior.
